Costa Rica Herbazú

Last year, our Director of Education, Kelly Hill, traveled to Costa Rica with the goal of finding exceptional new coffees to use in competitions and to share with our dedicated patrons. Her selected coffees would need to be unique, exquisite, and most importantly, provide an extraordinary tasting experience. This offering is the first in Temple's Premier line of coffees from Costa Rica that excelled in each of the aforementioned criteria.
Manuel Antonio "Toño" Barrantes and his family produced this Costa Rica Herbazú offering at the Cafetalera Herbazú micro-mill in the West Valley of Costa Rica. Toño and his siblings founded the Herbazú mill in 2000 to establish more control over their product quality and to combat the fluctuating coffee market. The Herbazú mill has been a pioneer for the Costa Rican micro-mill revolution, and their experimentation has resulted in multiple Cup of Excellence accolades.
One of Toño's most recent, and influential, experiments was importing 75 SL-28 seedlings from Kenya. SL-28, one of the most well-known and well-regarded varietals of Africa, produces some of the highest quality cups of coffee in the world. Tono's experimentation with SL-28 has resulted in this Costa Rica Herbazú and we are proud to offer this coffee as our first Premier offering of 2019. Enjoy!
