STORY
Last year, our Director of Education, Kelly Hill, traveled to Costa Rica with the goal of finding exceptional new coffees to use in competitions and to share with our dedicated patrons. Her selected coffees would need to be unique, exquisite, and most importantly, provide an extraordinary tasting experience. The Costa Rica La Perla is the second of three offerings that Kelly discovered during her trip that met all of her criteria.

In the West Valley region of Costa Rica, high in the mountains of Naranjo is the La Perla del Cafe Micromill. The micro-mill is owned and operated by Carlos and Diana Barrantes who collectively own six coffee farms in the area. The mill has one goal - produce the highest quality coffee possible through the use of strict cleanliness guidelines and strong relationships with their entire workforce. Every season, for nearly 20 years, 45 indigenous workers from Panama travel to the area to harvest cherries for La Perla. Once the coffee cherries reach the perfect shade of red, referred to as sangre de toro, or "bull's blood," the cherries are ready for processing. Don Carlos and Doña Diana have created a bond with their workers based on trust, reliability, and consistency; a practice they believe contributes to the peerless quality of their product.

The excellence found in the coffee from La Perla del Cafe Micromill is a result of their dedicated team of workers. The mill continually strives to provide every coffee drinker with an excellent tasting experience, and we are excited for you to enjoy the fruits of their efforts in this remarkable coffee offering. Enjoy!
