STORY
We have had the pleasure of working with Rungeto Farmer’s Cooperative for two seasons now and with each coffee we try from them our respect and admiration grows. Rungeto was formed in 1997 when the famed Ngiriama Cooperative Society liquidated their assets and the Kirinyaga, Karimikui, and Kii washing stations joined together to form the Rungeto Farmer’s Cooperative.
As of 2018 the Karimikui Washing Station serves 1,400 small lot coffee producers who produce around 400,000 pounds of green coffee every season. Karimikui operates near the Kii river and uses fresh river water to fully wash their coffees and then leave the green coffee out to dry on raised Kenyan style beds.
In previous seasons we had had coffees from Kirinyaga, and Kii Washing Stations but this is the first season we have had the opportunity to offer a coffee from Karimikui Washing Station. We are extremely excited to share this coffee with our customers. Enjoy!
