DR Congo Muungano Co-op

TASTING NOTES
BODY: FULL
FLAVOR: CLOVE, GRAPEFRUIT, DRIED FIG
FINISH: LINGERING
One of our favorite offerings from last year is back again! Notes of tart grapefruit, light citrus, and a hint of clove, reminiscent of baking spices, will fill your palate. Warm, rich, and complex, this coffee leaves a lingering finish that ensures you'll want more.

STORY
The Muungano Cooperative is located on the western shores of Lake Kivu near the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda. The cooperative is comprised of roughly 4,400 smallholder farmers with nearly half of these farmers being women. The principal focuses of the co-op are gender justice and ethnic harmony. These core values are reflected by the cooperative's name, which means "togetherness" in the Swahili language. Muungano was founded in 2009 and has grown from their beginnings of milling coffee on early twentieth-century technology. They now have two new washing stations, a new cupping lab, and a trained roaster and cupper on staff. The cooperative continues to strive for excellence and their hard work and dedication are reflected in their fantastic coffee offerings.
